Colorado-based BenchSentry Raises $530k in New Round of Equity Funding

DENVER, April 29, 2019 – Colorado-based BenchSentry, outdoor IoT connected bench designed to secure deliveries, announced earlier this month that it has raised $530K in a new round of equity funding all from private investors.

BenchSentry, which was founded in 2017, is a hybrid bench and storage system that includes surveillance and alerts for deliveries. It gives community members and neighborhoods the tools they need to protect their deliveries from package theft.

The infrastructure of the BenchSentry includes a heavy-duty polymer bench with an integrated touchscreen and intelligent sensor lock that can be controlled via a smartphone app. BenchSentry also features an HD camera that monitors delivery activity, taking pictures of people attempting to open the lid.

“We want to disguise it as a piece of furniture [so] it looks like it is supposed to be there,” said Founder and CEO, Ben Dehner.

The BenchSentry technology platform analyzes tracking numbers from numerous carriers in order to sync package information with the BenchSentry mobile app. A carrier will be able to deliver packages to the BenchSentry by entering the last four digits of the tracking number on the touchscreen, unlocking the lid for package delivery. After a delivery is made, the lid re-locks and is ready for its next delivery.

Over two years ago, Dehner and the BenchSentry team created 50 prototypes that were field tested with homeowners and carriers. After comprehensive feedback, the company has finalized the security and design features and has begun to prepare for an Indiegogo campaign in June.

Dehner said that, “the funding will be put towards production of the first line of BenchSentry units, as well as hiring two additional employees before the end of the year.
